About Me

My name is Doug.  I am a 41 year old guy from Rockmart, Georgia, who decided a couple of years ago to attempt to train for and run a 5K on my 40th birthday.  Needless to say, I got hooked.  I have run several 5Ks, a 10K, and a Half Marathon since then. I am training to run my first full marathon in October of 2012.

I have never been one to exercise, and running is something that I came across late in life (hence the name).  Running and fitness have changed my life. For the better. This blog is a place for me to document those changes and hopefully inspire others to make positive changes in their own lives.

I am happily married to the girl of my dreams (The Wife) for almost 20 years and we have two incredible sons (First Son and Second Son).  They hate me for posting that picture of them with the signs, but I love the sentiment and the embarrassment contained in the photo.

I end almost every post with “get started” because those two words have tremendous impact on our lives if we will put them into practice.  Many people will never know what they are capable of because they never get started.  I don’t want to live that way.  The first time that I ran, I ran for 60 seconds and then stopped to rest and walk.  I can now run for almost 2 hours without stopping.

All because I got started.

  1. Hey 41 year-old guy with two sons, first son and second son, and married for 20 years… I’m a 57 year-old guy with three sons and a daughter and just celebrated my 35th wedding anniversary. Your blog is great, motivating and love the “get started.” I posted Practical Advice for First-time Marathoners last year at http://rite2run.wordpress.com/2011/08/30/first-time-marathoners-the-reality-scoop/ With marathon season right around the corner, you motivated me to update my advice. Thanks! I’m registered to run my 13th in November, my lucky number. Stick with it, running and writing.
