“The world is waiting. Do you hear God calling your name?” from the back cover.
Christine Caine has presented us with a very powerful daily devotional. Drawing from her book Undaunted, as well as other writings, and including some very personal history and insights, Christine challenges us to live above our circumstances and accept the calling of God on our life to be light and salt in the world in which we live. Each day includes a brief scripture reading, a targeted essay to move our minds in a specific direction, and concludes with a Moment of Reflection. These moments are perhaps some of the most important parts of the daily readings, as we are encouraged to take a moment and consider what we can do today to apply the material to our life.
If you take the time to really process what you are reading and actually spend the time weighing your own response to the questions, this book can be a great tool to move you towards God’s goals for you in life.
My only complaint about this book is the way in which it is organized. The four quarters of the year are broken into specific sections: Broken, Loved, Empowered, Commissioned. As you walk through the year, Christine moves you from your damaged soul to the new life in Christ to your new ability to God’s plan for you. I feel that this devotional would be best read in order, beginning in January. As I jumped into it in late May, some of the material that I read wasn’t as easily applied, specifically because I walk daily in the much of what she would have covered in the broken section.
Do yourself a favor. Get this book and read it from the beginning. There is a life larger than we can imagine inside of us, and this book will help God reveal it to you.
